Environment and Climate Change
The Directorate General of Environment and Climate Change is responsible to ensure that all legal instruments polices, strategies and programmes related to environment protection, climate change, pollution control are developed and disseminated. It is also responsible to develop strategies to promote partnership and enhance capacity of private sector to invest in activities of environment and climate change for sustainable economic development.
The Directorate General of Environment and Climate Change is responsible for ensuring the development and dissemination of all legal instruments, policies, strategies, and programs related to environmental development, protection, conservation, climate change, pollution control, and meteorological services.
It is also tasked with formulating strategies to foster partnerships and enhance the private sector’s capacity to invest in environmental, meteorological, climate change, and green initiatives for sustainable economic development.
Core Responsibilities:
1. Develop, promote, and disseminate policies, strategies, and programs related to the environment, climate change, and meteorology.
2. Formulate and enforce laws and regulations aimed at protecting the environment, restoring natural ecosystems, conserving biodiversity, and ensuring the dissemination of accurate meteorological information and data.
3. Build institutional and human resource capacities in the environment and natural resources sectors.
4. Mobilize necessary resources for environmental development, protection, conservation, and climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts.
5. Promote public-private partnerships and enhance the private sector’s capacity to invest in environmentally sustainable and climate-friendly projects.
6. Monitor, evaluate, and provide guidance and support to institutions under the Directorate’s supervision to ensure effective implementation and integration of environmental, meteorological, and climate change policies, strategies, legislation, and programs at both institutional and local government levels.
